Sticky: Welcome!
Welcome! Here is some stuff about me:
* I am a 43 year old human person living with the girlfriend and a cat called Blue.
* In my previous lives I have worked as a youth worker and a school librarian but currently I am A Disabled.
* I do, however, run my own LGBTQ+ library for children and young people.
* I knit, I crochet. Usually not at the same time, not enough arms.
* I stream the above on Twitch
* I read, I would like to read more. Favourites include: Stephen King, Seanan McGuire/Mira Grant, the Animorphs series, queer picture books and queer graphic novels.
* I write. I've done it on and off for a long time, I'm hoping this is a more sustained "on". I try and do a bit every day.
* I've just started playing D&D! I've been meaning to for years and have finally done it. Currently I play a Halfling Bard called Nora Pondweed, she will play her bagpipes at you.
* I have ADHD, I have fibromyalgia, I try and do all the above around them.
* Dr Pepper with coconut is amazing, I wish it was something we could get here more easily.
* I have an extensive My Little Pony collection that I've had for decades, I've collected G1, G3, and G4 (the Friendship is Magic one). We don't talk about G2 and G5.
* I have the MLP:FIM TTRPG Core Rule Book and I will lead a game at some point.
I think that's aboout it? Welcome!
We do the dance of productivity!
Today I am attemping to sort out my desk, which will be fab but also OMG. There's a lot of stuff on here but once it's sorted I'm feeling hopeful I will be able to locate things when I lose them, which at the moment I can't do. Plan is, to alternate between sorting, writing, and lying on the bed in front of a fan for most of the day. Fueled by iced coffee and Dr Pepper. I'm going to have all my writing and TTRPG books up here on the desk and I am Excited About That. My ADHD brain likes it when all my favourite things are in one place and I can see them.
I like sorting things. I like it when things are sorted.
Update: I have found two things I had been looking for; my rainbow National Trust badge and the My Little Pony Fuck TERFS sticker someone gave me at a protest in exchange for a bracelet. Hurrah!
Excuse me while I sleep.
All the things that happened this week are good things. But when you have the Fatigue of the Chronic variety your body doesn't care if it's a good thing or not, it's still A Thing and so, tired.
Had a friend stay over for the first half of the week on her annual summer in the UK from the States. This has become an annual thing for many years now and we got to do a couple of trips out to a National Trust house and to the board game cafe so yey, fun friend times! I enjoy fun friend times.
Thursday was a trip to the hospital I'm going to have my dental surgery at (I did a prediction on Twitch earlier in the day for how many times I would cry during the appointment, the outcome was once which is pretty good) and I now have my surgery scheduled for July 30th. I have instructed R (girlfriend and responsible adult when I'm under all the happy happy drugs) to not let me have my phone back until she is convinced the happy happy drugs have worn off. I do not have the energy to deal with the consequenses of me having internet access while I'm loopy.
And then Friday was a school event and a library committee meeting, both of which went extremely well but by the end of it I was ready to sleep and not use my brain for a good chunk of time.
Also it's been hot as balls for the last few days. We've had to resort to emptying tuna water out for Blue to drink as she refuses to drink water, and while that's fine usually - she gets enough water from her food and we check to make sure she's hydrated - in this weather she needs a top-up and does not have the brain cells to realise this. Poor furry girl, it must be warm being a kitty in this heat.
So that's the update. I have nothing on my calendar for this week so I am planning on writing, reading and doing very little. Because once we get into July it's time for Pride events and that's going to be a busy time.
Hey friends what's crackin'
I read six books this month which considering I've struggled to read a single book in the last...over a year means that hopefully I've kicked my reading mojo back in line. Which is awesome. Plus I'm now further through the Toby Daye book series than I've gotten before which is VERY GOOD. Double thumbs up.
Yesterday the final part of my outfit arrived for the Medieval Day we're going to next week (on ma birthdayyyy) and it looks awesome. And it's in a literal medieval barn because I live in the part of the world where history comes from.
As for today, I'll need a shower fairly imminently as I'm planning on leaving the house for the wool shop to get more yarn for the cardigan I'm crocheting. Which I will hopefully finish on stream tonight. Although it depends on how warm it is as I don't fancy having a lap full of acrylic yarn if it's going to be too warm.
Also I'm writing. But I feel kinda weird talking about it right now so I'll leave it at that! At some point I'll feel comfortable enough to share. Hopefully...!
Happy weekend y'all!
The DWP can get in the bin.
I feel that statement is fairly self-explanatory. Any questions?
In other news, my reading mojo has returned which I'm very happy about. My brain has rearranged itself slightly and decided the best thing to do is stop paying attention to the crap going on in the world and read books instead. I can get behind that.
Monday morning means library admin. And griping at the Department for Work and Pensions. Story of my life.
Board games!
Yesterday R (girlfriend) and I went for the second time to Chance and Counters in Bristol for our becoming-fortnightly board game lunch date. They do a really good deal of a burger lunch, a drink and two hours of board games for a tenner and that's a good price for lunch and nerdery!
(they also do a really good raspberry lemonade with it)
I sat and read for an hour before R got there as I had to wait for her to have an appt first, so I stared Late Eclipses (fifth Toby book by Seanan McGuire) and listened to the LOTR lo-fi playlist I found on Spotify when I was looking for Twitch-friendly music.
It was a really good afternoon. We played a quilting-inspired board game I forget the name of, a card game around running a bakery, a complicated but fun board game based around dog walking and then another card game involving collecting treasures and stopping an island from sinking. I probably should remember their names. But it was loads of fun and we're going back next week to begin our fortnightly-board-gaming-date-afternoon. Yey!
Hellooo
Firstly, welcome to everyone who got an email notification saying "Emsy's posted on LJ!" I have! Whee!
So. I keep posting "yo I'm here" posts and then disappearing but, I'm going to start using this again. I've spent months Googling "LJ-type blogging places that aren't LJ but have some semblance of a community" and getting nothing back so I might as well stick here. I figure, I'm 43 next month, I'm allowed to do the "this is what we used in my day!" thing with LiveJournal. So, hey.
(and I know I KNOW that LJ is run by Russians who want all my data and think I'm illegal because I'm gay I KNOW. I'm not giving these guys any money, OK?? They have 20-something years of my personal data, it's fine, none of it is interesting!)
"So what going on then?" I'm so glad you asked.
Hi. I'm Emily. I don't really use Emsy as an online name any more but yes that's also me. Mostly I'm ElphieMcDork everywhere now. I am going to be 43 next month. I live with my girlfriend and cat, Blue, in a house in the south-west of the UK. I have previously worked as a youth worker and a school librarian but now I am disabled, so I don't have a job any more. However I do stream crafting streams on Twitch, and I run an LGBTQ+ library for children and young people. I knit and crochet a lot, I spin hardly ever at the moment, maybe that will increase at some point. I read a lot, I still collect My Little Ponys, I still drink a lot of Dr Pepper.
